We went skating this afternoon and some of us tried broom all for the first time. It was a lot of fun, even if we were wearing these funny looking shoes!
FH Collins?? Since the parent meeting for the transition to high school happened last night, we spent some class time talking about how we're feeling about high school. The Monkeys were all very honest. Many are nervous and anxious. Some already feel ready. In the coming months a number of activities are planned to make the transition be as smooth as possible. We are in awe of one the Monkeys that can solve the Rubix cube in 1:05 minutes!!!!! Some genius hour projects in action today. Most groups and students are putting a lot of effort into learning more about the topic they have chosen. Others are struggling at maintaining momentum with the project and others are really struggling to choose from all the possibilities. We have started reading aloud a very good book called Wonder. The author was inspired by a song Natalie Merchant wrote long ago. We started by listening to this song. We have started working on our project for our school wide brain theme day. Among other things we are creating model representations to show others what the difference is between fixed and growth mindset. There is a new addiction in our class...the Rubik's cube! Today we did another mystery Skype....with a class in Surrey. Today we worked on another coding page - Scratch from MIT. It proved to be more of a challenge yet our learning from yesterday paid off. Today, the Monkeys worked on animating their name, a card or making a game. Ask a Monkey to show you what it looks like. We participated in the worldwide event, hour of code, today. Since we are the monkey class, we started by working on programming a little monkey to get a banana. We worked on the code monkey.com website. Everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge and some were even becoming a little frustrated as the thinking skills required became more difficult at each level :) Today we did our fifth mystery Skype with people from Oregon,U.S.A.They guessed us first, but they had to leave early to get to their next class. We guessed their state, but they told us their city because they had to leave. Madame Sofie is setting us up so that we can blog with them. (Written by Cooper) |
