Yesterday, Shailyn's mom, came in to show us how to do do origami newspaper baskets for our seedlings.
Today we transplanted our violas! They will be happy to have more space to grow.

We went out for a walk this afternoon to learn how to identify the different trees. Special thanks to Madame Jen who kindly shared all her knowledge. Then when we came back to class for novel project presentations and learned to play the games that some of he students invented! We continue to do some learning about native Yukon trees with help of Madame Jen, a botanist. The monkeys are divided into 4 groups, each becoming experts on one type of tree. Thank you to all of you that were able to come tonight to share and celebrate your child's learning. I believe it was a success. On another note, I would like to share with you a lengthy article I have recently read and that I have referenced in many conversations lately. It is about over protecting our children and natural playgrounds. If you do read it, please let me know what you think as I enjoy these kinds of conversations. Happy reading! http://www.theatlantic.com/features/archive/2014/03/hey-parents-leave-those-kids-alone/358631/ In English we are working on poetry. We have shared poems that we enjoy, created a poet-tree and today we answered the question above "What makes a collection of words a poem?". It has been an interesting start to our poetry unit. We are working on decimals in math these days. Here we are seen problem solving a multiplication using decimals. It was challenging but fun! I posted a blackout poem from our class I. Twitter last night and we made it on a poetry blog. Check it out: We worked hard in math today by guessing and checking our math multiplication with decimal numbers. Ask the monkeys to show you what we did! We have been participating in some of the First Nations activities this week during our school wide First Nations week. Above is our class attending the bannock and handprinting activity on Tuesday. |
