Today we had our fourth Genius Hour. Some came well prepared, others not so much. As a consequence, some were frustrated this time with the experience. There was as always a variety of projects such as:
Today there were only 9 students in our class. Some are away on vacation and some were at the ice hockey tournament. All in all we had a relaxing and productive day. Nothing much else to report! We are working on our Greek gods and goddesses summaries. Manas read aloud his summary today to give us an idea what should be included: - your name - what are you the god of - your story - your relationships - your symbol - any other important information We learned how to play Mancala today. It is a simple game that can be played with very few materials-you could even play it with dirt and pebbles! Yet it is in fact a very strategic game. The more you play, the more strategies you will develop. Ask one of the monkeys to show you hoe to play! A sneak peek of some of the many Greek things we are working on - a video and an art museum amount other things. You will get a chance to see all this learning sometime in March. We worked on anchor charts about author techniques. While doing French reading in the next week or so we will be looking for these techniques in our books. We skyped with Zack and his family today! They are spending two months in Ecuador and are currently volunteering by helping endangered sea turtles. It sounds interesting and fun. I think we all learned some new facts and information today and are looking forward to hearing more about their trip! We will be completing the Foundational Skills Assessment (formerly known as Yukon Achievement Tests) the first week of February. We are spending a little bit of time getting ready for these to learn how to take a test and what to do when you don't know the answer. |
