We had a great Brain day today! We did some learning about the brain and had many students come to our class and learn about Mindset. I am exhausted.....I bet your child is too!
Our reading buddies came to our class today to test run our activities for tomorrow's brain day. They had fun, even if it was a bit chaotic! This is how we started our morning meeting this morning with a hula hoop activity to wake us up... Then it turned into a hula hoop contest! You just never know what the Monkeys will get up to! Ha! As a part of our genius hour project, these two girls organized a bake sale for the Mae Bacher Animal Shelter. They raised 445$ that they delivered to the shelter today. Bravo!!! We went skating this afternoon and some of us tried broom all for the first time. It was a lot of fun, even if we were wearing these funny looking shoes! FH Collins?? Since the parent meeting for the transition to high school happened last night, we spent some class time talking about how we're feeling about high school. The Monkeys were all very honest. Many are nervous and anxious. Some already feel ready. In the coming months a number of activities are planned to make the transition be as smooth as possible. We are in awe of one the Monkeys that can solve the Rubix cube in 1:05 minutes!!!!! Some genius hour projects in action today. Most groups and students are putting a lot of effort into learning more about the topic they have chosen. Others are struggling at maintaining momentum with the project and others are really struggling to choose from all the possibilities. We have started reading aloud a very good book called Wonder. The author was inspired by a song Natalie Merchant wrote long ago. We started by listening to this song. We have started working on our project for our school wide brain theme day. Among other things we are creating model representations to show others what the difference is between fixed and growth mindset. |
